Reminded me of an interesting article today.

Maybe this market penetration isn't so good for the wellbeing of your typical person.

I find it very difficult to believe that the 65-100 y/o demographic participation in Facebook is great than both the 13-15 and 16-17 y/o groups. Granted, the population size is signifacntly larger of the elderly, but I think this has to do with the fact that younger people would lie about their age or not have it reported on their account. Either way, it is interesting to see how older generations can get involved in new media via word of mouth.

54% penetration in the USA, yet the only ads I notice are for online games that have graphics on par with the 8-bit Nintendo I bought in 1987. Suffice to say that for the Facebook management crew, monetization is still very much a work in progress!

As for "Following" an organization/business on FB, I've found that I quickly tire (i.e. stop reading the posts) of an org that lights up FB more than a couple times per week. While I love me some Dave Ramsey, his FB traffic flat wears me out.

Granted, mine is just one opinion out of 980,883,220.

54% is very impressive and shows just how powerful the internet has become. Facebook links many together socially, and some might even say it's odd to not have a Facebook page at this point. I know some people still consider Facebook a waste of time or don't understand it, but Facebook has become important enough that I believe this percentage will climb even higher, undoubtedly.

While the 50+% participation in Facebook is impressive it is likely that social media participation will increase as approximately 75% of US users are under the age of 45. In the next 20 years as these users age it is likely that more young users will join.

I expect to see an increase in marketing attempts through social media as participation will likely increase. However, I do hope that marketing does not overtake the sites and discourage users.

While the current 50% participation rate for Facebook in the United States is impressive the statistics could suggest that this rate will increase. Approximately 75% of US users are under the age of 44. As the current user population ages it is likely that younger members will join and increase this usage percentage.

With these facts it should be expected that marketing and advertising will increase on social media sites.

I am honestly surprised it is that low. I feel like everyone and their grandma has a Facebook these days.

If I had guessed the percentage I would have said well over 60%. I'm also surprised that younger age groups between 13 and 17 aren't represented more heavily.

Very interesting. The age distribution was as expected, but the 54% rate of us feels low, it seems like that number should be well above 70%. But, my perspective is definitely skewed because I'm a young adult and everyone I come across has a FB account. Regardless, 150+ million people using a online service is astronomical.

Facebook is the most common social media network. No surprise here.

I believe any social media website or network should have a logistics program to help them find their target market. It doesnt surprise me that facebook now has 54% of america using it. Facebook is one of the higest promoted social media networks in the world.

I believe all social media network companies should have some sort of logistics software to find their target audience. Its no wonder why US is up to %54. Facebook pops up on nearly every website you visit.

I cannot believe that over HALF of the US is on Facebook! It is crazy how much people engage in social media daily. It is interesting to find that most of the population that is on Facebook is between the ages 18-34. This would be a great place for businesses to market their products!

I thought it was interesting how over HALF of the US is on Facebook! It is crazy to think how many people are interested in social media. It made me laugh when I noticed that there were people on Facebook that were 65+!! I know that there were a small percentage of this age but that's awesome! Marketers defiantly have an open door to market their products using this website, obviously Facebook is trending!

I'm curious how they came to these numbers...? Many people will have more than one account or create profiles for businesses or agendas. Does it include all the suspended accounts that still exist?

I wasn't surprised to see that the United States leads with the most people on Facebook, but it was interesting to see the break down of different demographics that are on Facebook. Although I am interested in whether the numbers are based on profiles that have been made or data from regular users of Facebook.

Impressive stats. In a way, Facebook reminds me of the kid in class who exhausts himself by waving and calling-out, then has nothing to say once he has everyone's attention (or 54% of everyone). What a blessed problem to have, though. Going forward, it will be interesting to watch how effectively FB monetizes their limelight.

this marketing penetration about Facebook is huge. one of the biggest promoters in the world that lets consumers interact, express and communicate all type of form of desire. facebook is another social media that has become more popular in the world. users such as the one shown in the graphs demonstrate how the this website strategically penetrated in to consumer mind. demographics and geographic on this market site is one the main domains of it. Not only Facebook let consumers interact but lets other companies and advertisers use his site to promote their product. the 4ps are used very well with this penetration of facebook.

Sometimes FB reminds me of the kid in class who is frantic for attention but has little to say once he has the floor. While FB's user-verse is incredibly large, it is also chocker-block full of folks who have little use for FB beyond sharing photos and learning who amongst their friends and family is the latest to contract norovirus.

In contrast, though I'm not a member I've watched my wife peruse Pinterest long enough to realize that platform is a marketer's dream. No time for idle chit-chat here, just non-stop personal endorsements.

I'm not one to base opinions solely on statistics but these are quite impressive. It will be interesting to see if demand shifts going forward from how it once was. I remember when facebook was only available to college students at which point demand and interest were at an all time high. As opposed to how it is now and going forward with any, and everyone being allowed to join. I think there could be a large setback in not only user demand of the networking site, but in actual use of it as well.

I do have to wonder if Facebook is nearing it's peak in terms of market saturation. In the UK, they're seeing declines in Facebook, with Facebook share of social media outlet usage declining by more than seven percentage points since last year.

So interesting to see the different demographics on Facebook. However, how did the researchers come to this conclusion? I find it difficult to be that 54% rate should be much higher. Although, i do agree with the age distribution. It's interesting to see how much the elderly have grasped onto the idea of social media over the years.

what surprised me is that there are still so many countries don't use facebook.

I am not surprised that the U.S. is leading in Facebook penteration. One reason is because the U.S. is very open when it comes to advertising own personal business for the whole world to see. Also, another reason the United States is leading in Facebook pentaration is probably because our goverenment does not really put control one what we can access, say or do on the internet. If you look around the world several countries have internet limitation such as what can be search for on Google or what personal information can be found using the internet. Lastly, this is not surprising to me because several of my friends spend hours a day surfing Facebook, posting updates or what I like to consider stalking old friends or ex's.
