Start with a CRM Audit

If you are about to develop a marketing plan, a promotional plan or a social media plan, you should start with a Customer Relationship Management Audit and Plan.  You need to answer these basic questions and determine some basic metrics including:

  • Customer Lifetime Value (CLV)
  • Share of Wallet (SOW)
  • Segmentation by CLV and SOW- Execute a customer decile analysis
  • Acquisition Costs
  • Retention Costs
  • Brand Image
  • Brand Loyalty
  • Competitive Image
  • Competitive Loyalty
  • Purchase Intentions

My research indicates the following best practices lead to higher profits.

  • Develop a customer research panel
  • Measure customer satisfaction
  • Determine customer communication preferences.
  • Determine customer needs for technology (usage and support)
  • Segment by CLV and SOW

Accomplish the above and then develop your social media plan.

Email and Social Media

Many companies separate email efforts and social media efforts.  However, they should be used together.  Instead of "guessing" customer preferences for media, frequency, timing and content customers should be surveyed about their likes and dislikes.  While it is true that younger people are
moving away from email clients to facebook, twitter and SMS for "messaging" - it isn't always the case.

SWOT Analysis

SWOT analysis is the basic strategic planning tool.  Strengths -Weaknesses-Opportunities and Threats

Strengths and Weaknesses are internal to our organization.  From a marketing point of view we need to evaluate products, services, promotion, channels of distribution and pricing, and social media efforts, relative to competition.

Opportunities and Threats are external to your organization.  We need to evaluate competition, trends and the various environments in which we operate including Political/Legal, Economic, Social and Technological.

Moms and Facebook

Moms with kids under 12 are four times more likely to turn to friends and family for product buying advice than the social networks they participate in, a new report suggests.
While more than 80 percent of moms who participated in the study use Facebook and two-thirds update their statuses daily, only 24 percent use Facebook to seek or solicit product advice, according to a survey of 583 mothers by MomConnection, an online research network.
