Ever since graduating High School, I have become less a fan of social media, almost to the point where I don't use it at all to keep up with what others are up to. However, I will say that the main reason I use FaceBook or Twitter is to find interesting articles that people post whenever I am bored. With that being said, I think that top brands have done an excellent job at feeding into this form of media in order to reach their customers. Furthermore, I think that advertising or promoting in a place where consumers generally go to whenever they are bored is an excellent place for a brand to be.
It's very important for businesses to be involved with social media. Twitter right now is popular and can be used by businesses to market. Many companies have only been using Twitter for two to three years and there is much more to learn for these companies. Twitter can be a challenge to figure out how to be creative enough to get followers. But that is exactly what the companies need to find out.
To keep up with the competition between top brands, it is almost natural that they must dive into twitter, if not they will be behind their competitors in connecting with their customers. Nowadays, top brands are trying to connect to us in all ways possible through all our senses, and it is expected that they will come into twitter to connect with us.
It almost seems like companies need to be involved in social media like Twitter to be successful. I don't use Twitter, but it does seem like a great way to get a brand recognized. Of course, with any social media, businesses have to be very careful with the information they share on Twitter. It can help the company or it can hurt them. It almost seems like there could easily be a "social media" class in the future because there is so much to learn about it.
It is suprising to me that although Twitter has been around for 8 years now, most companies have only been utilizing it as a marketing tool for 2-3 years. I understand that there are good reasons for waiting a couple years to learn from the first adapters; however, 5-6 years seems like a long time for businesses to catch on.
It does not surprise me that a significant challenge is measuring return on investment from using Twitter. Companies have no way to know if it was a twitter post that caused customers to desire the product or service being offered. They may conduct surveys, but most consumers don't take them or don't pay attention to them.
If businesses are wise, they can only help themselves with a Twitter to increase product awareness and gain customers. However, they must be risk-averse in how they manage the Twitter and who they allow to post. An inappropriate or dumb post can majorly hurt a business too.
I would agree with the the 59.7% of businesses that don't fit into the "agree" category of twitter being an effective tool in business. Unless you are offering followers something special then what can it do for you? I keep hoping that twitter will go away but it doesn't look like it will...
In my opinion I think the best way for brands to stay relevant in competitive markets they have to have a social media presence. Currently, twitter seems to be dominating over other popular websites like Facebook or instagram. So naturally it would be a good marketing move for companies. Twitter can be used as a way to get promotions out there to customers without an added cost.
I think its a good thing for businesses to engage in twitter. If the company is a well known company then that could be an increase of revenue with them venturing out into the social media world. Its also a good way to update their current customers on whats going on and whats to look forward to in the future. The better a company is with advertising through social media, the more they would get more cliental.
I think social media is now, more than when it started, tending to be more for companies. It is used as a way to attract customers, find employees, as well as any other way to reach out potential consumers. The way society is, most people have the technology to access social media sites wherever they are. Also the amount of users on social media is steadily growing, with every generation, so that adds to the marketing effect it possesses. Now a days, the way competition is between businesses, if you don't have a twitte account, you are very far behind in the game. On most sites you can see the twitter logo, and for the companies who have not embraced social media, or who are slow to start the process, they are being beaten by the competitors. Being a part of social media is essential for businesses today.
The competition that brands have these days are using these social media websites to get there names out there. So if these companies want to stay relevant and successful they must be able to branch out and use twitter, Facebook, youtube, etc so that people see that these companies care about gaining new customers and are willing to connect with the new age of technology.
I am a real estate agent and for our business we use social media, including twitter, for all of the reasons mentioned in the article. We use it to constantly remind the public and our sphere of influence about what we do. Social media can lead people to our websites, where they can leave their contact information. which can lead to a future sale.
Obviously, social media is a great way for companies to show their products and most companies are having to join social media to keep up with competitors. It just makes me think that all these companies advertising could possibly drive people away from social media. I mean we are so saturated with advertisements on TV, computers, etc. There are more commercials on TV than there are TV shows. I just wonder if that's what social media will become, one big advertisement.
I would agree with make that social media has become much more then we could have imagined. Also the large brands and even the small can use the social media outlet to push brand recognition. For instance a broker or a bridge between large groups of friends follows a company or brand then they create a catchy ad. The broker then post the ad on his own page now instead of reaching just the broker the brand has effectively touched 100s of people with only needed to gain the support of one individual. Now if this happens a couple times over the wide spread ad will reach more in a faster time then it could ever be achieve before.
It wasn't shocking to me that so many companies use Twitter for primarily brand awareness. It is a great outlet to get awareness at low/no cost to the firm. I saw that there were about 34% of firms not planning on using Twitter's paid services. This is not surprising to me because there are certain businesses that will not receive a ROI. An example of this is a construction company. I believe Twitter would be a waste of time for the most part for these types of businesses.
I think twitter is a great resource for creating brand awareness, just like facebook. But it looks like as far as everything else goes its not that great.
