Social media in the political forum was in my opinion a huge reason why President Obama won the election in 2008, and was a reason so many people came out to vote who normally would not have. The Democratic party was able to reach people who don't frequently watch CNN, the news, CNBC, etc. They were able to reach the younger generation because they promoted where the younger generation was at; twitter, facebook, myspace, amoung others. To be successful in politics, parties have to use the same marketing strategies a normal company would use to gain followers, customers, and respect. Democrats outmatched the Republicans on that front and it proved to be what they needed to win the '08 election.
This is going to change poltitics. In my opinion, right now politics are not very technological. However, it could be a great thing. This could allow the younger generation to become more in touch with what is actually going on.
It's true the use of socail media is a must now for political campains. the difference now compared to four years ago is that that socail media is reaching more then the young voters it reaches almost everyone. Obama four years ago was consintrating on the young population and socail media was its means. Now, four years later my generation that was the target are still using socail media as well as older folks and younger folks. It's a close race and the one with the most "likes" has the better chance.

This is true social media is a must in political campains. Four years ago Obama was targeting the young voters by the use of socail media. These young voters are now four years older and there is a new young target. Interestingly enough. The young voters four years ago as well as older and even younger voters all use socail meadia. This campain is close and the one with the most "like" will most likely win.
