This article reflects exactly what my company has been talking about recently. My company just launched social media last month. They are not using Twitter yet, but they created Pinterest and Facebook pages. As a mental health insurance company, they use the pages to promote health and educate their customers on well-being in areas like ADHD, autism, nutrition, parenting, and management.
I definitely think social media is here to stay. Even now, it's such an untapped marketing source. A lot of companies are run by the older generation, who aren't as tech-savvy as the younger generation.
I think once you see more of people my age taking on more prominent roles in companies, you will see social media marketing really begin to take off, and we'll see things we've never seen before. I don't think social media is going anywhere.
I worked for a company abroad that promoted through Facebook and Twitter while I was there. It was amazing to see how in just a few days we went from 100 followers to 1,000 followers. I am a firm believer that social media is a great way to market, especially by the use of offers. The company I was with had an offer every day which I believe helped increase users.
I think social media is promising but in practice most companies are good at taking just that one initial step where you create various social media pages and then fail to use it consistently.
Social media is an extremely powerful tool, especially in industries like Insurance where strong customer relationships are crucial to an agent’s success. One of the biggest advantages in building communication channels with customers is the educational advantages which are gained through social media. Agents can ensure they can recommend new services at each stage of the customer’s life such as purchasing a new home, the birth of a child and retirement services. One downfall of the social media platform is that a dissatisfied customer can easily voice their frustrations about the services an agent provides which can be detrimental to their business.
I agree with several other comments on this page. Business owners are definitely increasing their use of social media as a means of marketing themselves. I read that nearly 2/3rds of biz owners plan on or are currently using FB as an avenue to reach customers. I know for me personally, my wealth management services isn't always top of mind as a concern for those in my FB circle. The most difficult task of social media marketing has been keeping consistent with posts. Additionally, keeping those posts entertaining or interesting requires more work. It can be done, however, and in a successful manner. Therefore, I only see social media becoming more popular with time.
Social media isn't going anywhere. In fact, it's expanding into other media like television.
For example, the NFL will be putting out tweets of video replay and game information in real-time to coincide with the viewing experience. Certainly advertisers will be building on that idea.
New forms of social media will certainly come along, but ads will continue to become more personalized and tailored. Social media is perfect for targeting audiences and tailoring messages.
As with a website, you need the right person to maintain social network sites. Someone who understands what works and what drives people away. Twitter is the new customer service line for businesses and must be constantly monitored and responded to.
Social media is the quickest, easiest, cheapest, and most convenient way to reach a large number of people. Social media will most likely remain popular up until a more efficient process to reach the masses is developed.
On Facebook, “one out of every seven posts should be self-promotional,” Rixford said. “The other six should be just fun things that you are doing for charity, your community, what’s going on in your community. Just being out there is what people like to see.”
This is a very important point that Rixford brings up. People won't just follow the same repeating advertisement. I can't count how many companies I have "unfollowed" because there was nothing original or current about their content.
It reminds me that Cisco launched a kind like intelligent search engine to do business needs search in related public platforms, such as forums, LinkedIn and Twitter. Whenever users mentioned the needs to purchase a certain product, it will catch the information. It helps companies locate the potential customer and find the deal more efficiently.
I agree with SmithA, my company has all the social media but know one updates. My company does safety products for industrial processes that protect equipment and people. Seems like they would be promoting that more. BWW does a good job love the updates. Great place to watch the game, have some wings, and a few drinks...
Social media is a good tool for businessman to sell their products, because it present the products or services in a interesting way that can be easier accepted by consumers. It is a kind of advertising, but it is more creative and successful than traditional advertising.
I think social media is definitely here to stay. But some services will grow or be more useful than others. I think a lot of people get Facebook fatigue and overwhelmed with keeping up with the every day happenings in people's lives. And people seem to be growing more concerned about their privacy. While some may enjoy following or receiving updates on Facebook from an insurance provider or other business, I think most people prefer to not see commercial posts or content.
I think Twitter is going to keep going strong. It allows people to interact with famous people, writers, and other public figures. It also allows you to curate your own news, tailored to your own taste and liking. This combined w/ the fact that news often breaks on Twitter before anywhere else, I think people will remain really engaged with Twitter.
I definitely agree with this article. There is a "time" and a place for businesses to use social media. It is very important business are using the sites correctly and not overusing them. I definitely agree that Facebook (as of now) is a more recreational/leisure site and should be used for constant promotional updates. In my opinion that is what Twitter is for. I also agree that LinkedIn is the most professional of the 3 sites and is great to utilize to contact other business and recruit future employees.
While impressions is really good, what matters the most is conversions. Social media is a great way to get lots of eyes on your brand or message. If it is done well and timed right, social media posts have a great way to increase Click through rates(CTR) to the company's website or company store.
I cannot but agree on the importance of having a global presence for a company via social media. Tapping in on the advantages of social media for new companies requires the 'right' set of people as Nathan said. It would not be long before social media would be a basic necessity for any upcoming business.
As technology continues to replace our everyday activities being active in social media is going to be even more important. Effective use of social media will be one of the most important ways to stay in contact with current customers and reach out to new ones.
Not only is social media here to stay but there will be a sharp rise in users that are businesses. I also see a trend towards creating new social media sites that will offer more than the last while the powerhouses like Facebook keep tweaking their sites.
Social media is definitely here to stay with the boom of the internet and the ability to connect to such a vast population it is too easy and effective in reaching all levels of consumers. Not to mention it is a very cheap form of marketing.
Social media is definitely here to stay and will continue to be used by companies due to the ability to reach all types of customers across such a wide range. It is also such an effective and cheap tool for companies to use to monitor competitors and reach new markets for their to be a decline in the useage.
I definitely agree that overuse of Facebook can be annoying and actually be bad press/marketing for the company or individual. People/companies that post too much may be taken less seriously or their posts may be overlooked if viewers are used to seeing the posts frequently. It is import to balance between promotional and "fun" posts, and know when enough is enough.
