You can see from this article that the older generation is not utilizing social media for shopping needs as that of the younger generation. The older genration would be a prime target market to reach because the family gift giving has expanded into son-in-laws, daughter-in-laws, grandchildren, etc.

From my personal observations, it does seem like it is mostly females/moms doing holiday shopping, especially on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. And now with the huge increase in smart phone users, more and more shoppers are seen roaming around stores with phone in hand...ready to take pictures, do price comparisons, or call a friend/significant other/etc. to confirm which item they should purchase. It is interesting how this growth in technology has changed our shopping experience, moving it more into the virtual realm rather than typical brick and mortars.

I definitely believe that mothers should be reached by retailers for the holiday season. As a mom, I am definitely in charge of most of the shopping. Many of my female friends are in charge of shopping for their families as well. I also think that moms are more likely to look for deals like coupons or price matching to stay within a budget.

This is too surprising to anybody who has a mother (all of us). I know that my own mother does most of the Christmas shopping, also most of the Christmas decorating. It would have been more helpful if the article could have given some tips on how to more effectively reach mothers. It talk about mobile shopping. But listed that only 25% use phones to help shop in the store. What about the other 75%?

I think that its good to include mobile devices for shopping purposes. Moms are starting to get "hip" to the new technology. Being able to buy things through their cell phones makes it a good way to increase not only sales but to promote the company for future purposes. I wouldn't be surprised if moms start subscribing to their favorite store, in which leads to ads just popping up on their mobile phone for marketing purposes.

This is not surprise that 7 out of 10 mother's will do the shopping for the household. Most of the men I know really are not interested in doing this. Women have been gatherers since the beginning of time. I feel sorry for other shoppers when the older women get out in Black Friday, as they have no fear. I have experienced older women running over other shoppers with their cart, if you get in their way. You really do not want to grab an item they are interested in buying, you might get an ear full. Online shopping is the best when you are trying to avoid of these women or other shoppers. No fuss and no yelling, or anyone fighting with you for the last item you might be shopping for. It is not surprising to see that sixty percent are going to shop online for gifts. I used the internet for comparing prices on
Black Friday, instead of driving around, you can get some awesome deals. I will shop on Amazon.com, as it has awesome prices. Using the phone is really not my answer to shopping, I would rather use my computer. No surprise that the younger generation is using the internet. They started using computers at a very young age, internet is a large part of wise marketing to help boost sales.
